Rep. Steven Horsford, serving as a U.S. Congressman representing Nevada's 4th District, shared his perspectives on recent developments related to diversity training and historical narratives in the United States. Horsford, who succeeded Ruben Kihuen in 2019, addressed former President Donald Trump's policies in a series of tweets.
In a tweet dated March 28, 2025, Horsford commented on Trump's prohibition of diversity and inclusion training in federal agencies, stating, " Trump banned diversity and inclusion training in federal agencies, labeling discussions about systemic racism as 'divisive.' This silenced necessary conversations on inequality and injustice."
Further elaborating on the impact of Trump's actions, Horsford remarked on the 1619 Project in a tweet from the same day. He noted, " Trump and his allies attacked the 1619 Project—a groundbreaking effort that reframes U.S. history by centering the consequences of slavery and Black contributions. Their goal? To erase any narrative that challenges whitewashed history."
Horsford also criticized the establishment of the 1776 Commission by Trump, suggesting it presented a skewed version of American history. On the same day, he tweeted, "In response to the 1619 Project, Trump’s 1776 Commission promoted a distorted, sanitized version of American history—glorifying the founding era while ignoring the brutality of slavery and systemic oppression."
