The Carson City Senior Center will get a makeover from a collaboration of federal, state and local grant funding.

The center secured a Community Recovery Grant program grant in the amount of $25,000, provided by American Rescue Plan funding; a recent release on CarsonNow.org said. The $30 million Community Recovery Grant program helps existing state nonprofits continue to provide community services.

"With funding from Nevada's Community Recovery Grant, the Carson City Senior Center can continue to serve meals to seniors, including veterans and homebound residents, even as its kitchen undergoes construction," Gov. Steve Sisolak recently tweeted.

The facility's dining room will get a $718,128 renovation due to a capital construction grant from the Nevada Department of Aging and Disability, the release said. The dining room, which provides up to 500 meals daily, will receive "significant improvements."

Courtney Warner, director of the Carson City Senior Center, told Carson Now that the federal, state and local funding collaboration "puts seniors first and makes the whole project possible."

"This is also a great gift to the City because it tackles some of the capital project including flooring, equipment and some other things that would (have) hit the general fund budget in future years," she said.

Sisolak went to the center to help prepare food boxes for the organization's Meals on Wheels initiative, the release said.

"Today, I toured the Carson City Senior Center and helped as they prepared meals for seniors in need with Meals on Wheels," the governor tweeted recently. "The center is using $25,000 in our Community Recovery Grant funds to continue this critical work as their kitchen undergoes construction."
