Bringing poetry to the spotlight, Nevada State College Professor Angela M. Brommel is Clark County’s new Poet Laureate – a two-year term that began on July 1. With the mission of promoting poetry as an art form and means of engaging the community, the Clark County Poet Laureate is selected every two years by a panel and is funded by the Clark County Arts program which was created by the Clark County Board of Commissioners.
At Nevada State College, Angela M. Brommel holds the roles of Executive Director of the Office for the Arts, Chief Curator of the Nevada State Collections & Galleries, and affiliate faculty. In her work as the Clark County Poet Laureate, Brommel’s project centers on poetry for resiliency with a special focus on poetry in the parks and interdisciplinary arts conversations and collaborations.
“Our campus community continuously makes us proud,” says Nevada State College Provost and Executive Vice President Dr. Vickie Shields. “Angela has been a working artist in the Henderson and Las Vegas communities for over 15 years. She is highly respected by her fellow poets and artists, contributing her time and talent to enhance the Arts at Nevada State as well as all of Clark County. It is an honor to have Angela in charge of The Arts at our institution, and we look forward to seeing her shine as Clark County’s Poet Laureate.”
A Nevada writer and curator with Iowa roots, Brommel is the author of two books, Mojave in July (Tolsun Books) and Plutonium & Platinum Blonde (Serving House Books).
