Adult chaperones are needed to help the youths at the Tahoe 4-H summer camp, a recent University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), news release said. The 4-H Youth Development Program is actively trying to recruit people for these roles.

The UNR Extension is setting up camp at the 40-acre Nevada State 4-H Camp in South Lake Tahoe, near the lakefront.

“This is great opportunity for those looking to become a 4-H leader and mentor, and for college students working toward careers with youth,” Extension 4-H Program Manager Sarah Chvilicek said in the release.

She went on to tout the experience as positive for the chaperones.

“Chaperones get to volunteer at the beautiful camp facility while engaging with the campers in activities and workshops," she said. "Past chaperones have reported finding it to be a very rewarding experience.”

Many chaperones will be needed to provide leadership and advice to campers from July 9-16, when the camp runs; the release said. The camp is organized for youth ages 9 to 12, from Washoe, Douglas and Storey counties, along with Carson City. As leaders, the volunteers will guide the youth through different educational activities throughout the camp and oversee those under their supervision.

Leaders must be 18 years of age or older at the start of the camp, the release said. They will make sure that the youth have a positive time by participating in programs, games and activity centers; while also looking after the mental, physical and emotional well-being and safety of the youth.
