Northern Nevada builder Norm Dianda has died at age 82, leaving behind a legacy of many notable buildings in the area.

"Norm Dianda is a northern Nevada icon," Nevada U.S. Senate candidate Adam Laxalt tweeted. "His work and charity will be remembered in buildings, communities and families for generations. Rest In Peace Norm. Prayers for his family."

Dianda, the son of a railroad worker and the grandson of a farmer, founded Q&D Construction in 1964 with a $650 kitchen remodeling contract, the Reno Gazette Journal reported. He died at his home Nov. 1.

He was still in charge of the company but had passed day-day operations of the company to his two sons, the story said.

The company grew into much larger projects such as Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center at the University of Nevada-Reno, the Outlets at Legends, Bishop Manogue High School and the Virginia Street Bridge, the story said.

“He built everything in town, just about,” current company president Lance Semenko told the Gazette Journal. “You name it, we’ve pretty much done it. But it’s not only what he’s built in this town, it’s the causes he’s donated to. He’s a community icon, for sure."

One of Dianda's larger clients was casino mogul Bill Harrah, who hired Q&D to work on some downtown Reno property, the Gazette Journal reported.

"We ended up doing work for Harrah's from 1966 to 2010," Dianda recalled, the story said.
