North Las Vegas Small Business Connector Launched To Boost Southern Nevada's Economic Recovery

Bussines

City of North Las Vegas recently issued the following announcement.

58 local small businesses have been supported in either starting or growing their business in North Las Vegas since the City of North Las Vegas, UNLV’s Small Business Development Center, Employ NV Business Hub, and Access Community Capital opened the NLV Small Business Connector on October 12.

“The North Las Vegas Small Business Connector is the catalyst Southern Nevada needs to move our economy forward,” said John Lee, Mayor of North Las Vegas. “In the first four days, the NLV Connector has assisted small businesses in expanding, finding ready-to-work employees, and getting a start right here in North Las Vegas.”

Demand is high for the NLV Connector. Clients may walk-in or make an appointment by calling 702-895-1205 or emailing sbdc@unlv.edu.

The NLV Connector is a one-stop shop located inside North Las Vegas City Hall that helps businesses launch and expand, provides loans at subprime rates to entrepreneurs and connects job seekers with employers.

Funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), the NLV Connector is part of the City’s ongoing COVID response to assist workers, families, and businesses impacted by the global pandemic through the smart and effective use of federal aid. North Las Vegas is placing a special emphasis on assisting North Las Vegas-based Hispanic-owned, women-owned, veteran-owned, and Black-owned businesses, but all small businesses and entrepreneurs can benefit from the NLV Connector.

The NLV Connector is the first in Nevada to have an Employ NV Business Hub located inside a City Hall.

Two of the small business owners in attendance at the ribbon-cutting were Amanda and Matt Payan, the sibling co-owners of North 5th Brewing Co., North Las Vegas’ first craft brewery and taproom.

“To know that I can come to the Small Business Center and find employees trained and ready to work is a huge help to small business owners like us,” Ms. Payan said.

Partners in the NLV Connector include: UNLV’s Small Business Development Center, which will provide business owners free expertise on how to start and grow a business; Access Community Capital, which will provide small business owners and startup entrepreneurs business loans at subprime rates, with a focus on women, veteran and minority-owned leaders; and the Employ NV Business Hub, which connects job seekers and employers, and supports expanding companies with on-the-job training for new hires.

The NLV Connector is located inside North Las Vegas City Hall (2250 Las Vegas Blvd. N., North Las Vegas, NV 89030) and is open Monday - Thursday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
