On Sept. 2, Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak announced a new mask exception for conventions taking place in the state.
News 3 reported that Emergency Directive 050 will allow large conventions to be exempt from mask requirements if all the attendees are vaccinated against COVID-19.
"Today, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak signed Emergency Directive 050, expanding the mask exception for large indoor events to now include conventions within counties that have 'substantial' or 'high' COVID-19 transmission if all attendees are vaccinated," the Nevada Health Response wrote in a Sept. 2 Twitter post.
The directive gives convention organizers the option to require that visitors be vaccinated or wear masks, News 3 reported. It doesn't explicitly require attendees to show proof of vaccination, but will require convention operators to come up with a method to determine which attendees are fully or partially vaccinated. Partially vaccinated guests will still have to wear masks.
Experts believe that the directive could potentially have economic implications by banning unvaccinated vendors, according to 8 News Now.
"It could impact the city,” Georganne Bender a partner with Kizer & Bender Speaking said, 8 News Now reported. "Personally, I’d prefer not to wear a mask, but on the other hand, I would like to have every retailer who needs to attend that show, attend that show."
