The city of Las Vegas held a Juneteenth celebration Saturday at the Expo at World Market Center.
Cedric Crear, District 5 Councilman, attended the event and participated in festivities that honored the emancipation of enslaved African Americans, according to a press release.
“The entire community (was) invited to come celebrate Juneteenth at the Expo at World Market Center,” Crear said in the release. “Now a federally recognized holiday, I am excited to invite everyone out to come together in unity and peace to remember our ancestors, their sacrifices and our people’s emancipation.”
The event featured food trucks, free entertainment, and vendor locations; the release stated. It was hosted by the Rainbow Dreams Educational Foundation and Crear and sponsored by the city.
“We are honored to be teaming with the city of Las Vegas on this day to promote unity and understanding, as well as to listen and learn with open minds and hearts,” said Bob Maricich, chairman and CEO of International Market Centers, which manages The Expo at World Market Center. “When we embrace diversity and inclusion, we become a stronger community, and we become a more effective workplace when every colleague is appreciated and respected.”
