A community college workforce training program established by Gov. Steve Sisolak recently announced that it would make free programs available to students.
The Community Colleges Workforce Training and Programs Committee created the pilot program to make community college available through Assembly Bill 450, a recent press release from the governor’s office said.
“This is only the start of the continued work in the State of Nevada to ensure that educational opportunities are affordable and available to Nevadans in need,” Sisolak said in the release.
Sisolak committed $5 million in American Rescue Plan money so that he could further examine where he could make the program free for more citizens of the state, the released said. He asked the committee to furnish him with proposals that would accomplish that mission.
“I’m proud of the dedication of this Committee to make community college and training programs free and available to more Nevadans – and figure out what works, and what doesn’t, for our communities,” Sisolak said.
The program will seek students who are interested in occupations that are currently in high demand in Nevada, and Sisolak’s office will continue to identify workforce project opportunities; the release said.
