The National Commission for Correctional Health Care has recertified the Las Vegas Department of Public Safety for complying with its "Standards for Health Services in Prisons" program.

According to a news release shared by the Las Vegas government, the prestigious accreditation was given to the detention center for adhering to protocol established by correctional institutions of keeping inmates healthy.

"Achieving this award and maintaining our level of care during COVID-19 is a testament to our commitment and dedication to the continuous delivery of quality health care for the resident population,” said city of Las Vegas Public Safety Deputy Chief Danielle Davis in the release. "In addition, our medical contract provider, NaphCare, has worked diligently to achieve the NCCHC accreditation. This process was demanding, and our success is attributed to all of the hard-working medical professionals, corrections officers and supervisors."

According to the release, the detention center’s initial accreditation happened in 1999 and the institution has 23 years of outstanding care for inmates.

The Las Vegas Government reports that in September of 2021 the detention center went through an onsite inspection administered by qualified medical officials, along with correctional health care professionals in order to keep their accreditation ongoing.

According to National Commission CEO Deborah Ross: "In achieving NCCHC accreditation, the Las Vegas Detention Center has demonstrated its commitment to meeting constitutional requirements for health care delivery for incarcerated individuals. Accreditation is a voluntary process, and we commend the Las Vegas Detention Center for successfully undertaking this challenge to provide quality health care and instill confidence in the community it serves."
