The Clark County School District is enacting measures to mitigate violence on school grounds as thousands of violent incidents have been reported to the district.

According to a news release from the Las Vegas government, three separate attacks on teachers and staff at Las Vegas Valley schools have been reported over the last month, with three students apprehended.

The release reported the youth initiative Batteries Included program helps foster advocacy amongst students by providing techniques focused on leadership, community service, career preparation and higher education preparation.

“I hope at least one person will be like, oh I’m not that alone in this world,” said Batteries Included participant Jacob Guzman. “There’s probably at least someone else that’s experienced what I experienced and was able to move on from it.”

The Clark County School District reported that students from area schools get together once school is completed to participate in engaging activities, along with community service projects.

“I think it helps for some students who don’t really think they have a purpose outside of school,” said president of the Batteries Included chapter at her high school R Gondalez. “It gives students a chance who have free time after school to be able to be in a club and feel like they can make a difference.”
