A professor at the University of Nevada, Reno has been awarded the 2022 Nevada Regents Rising Researcher award.

Computer science and engineering professor Feng Yan is crucial to the school’s artificial intelligence program, which provides scholarships on work that is centered on data, machine learning and computer structures, according to Nevada Today, the University of Nevada, Reno's news website.

“I am very honored and grateful to receive this prestigious award as it is an important and encouraging reflection of the high-quality research work everyone in my lab has been doing,” Yan said. “We are encouraged by this award and will keep on trying our best to conduct high impact and productive research in the areas of big data, machine learning and computing systems as well as interdisciplinary topics that go beyond computer science and engineering.”

Yan’s dedicated work has paid off as he was the recipient of the award with four others garnering a Rising Researcher honor, which comes with a $2,000 award, Nevada Today said.

Yan’s interests are centered on interdisciplinary research, along with joining forces with leading researchers in the fields of health, physics, geography, material science, mechanical engineering and civil engineering, the Nevada Today said.

“I see lots of missed opportunities as well as unaddressed challenges in today’s AI revolution that could be solved by seamlessly integrating big data, machine learning, computing systems and application domain knowledge,” Yan said.
