A new drive-thru COVID-19 testing site is expected to be available for several weekends thanks to the City of Las Vegas.
The free testing will take place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays at the Veterans Memorial Community Center parking lot, 101 S. Pavilion Center Drive in Summerlin, Las Vegas’ master-planned community, a government blog said.
“The city of Las Vegas is partnering with Northshore Clinical Labs to provide drive-through COVID-19 testing on Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., beginning Jan. 22,” the blog said.
Although appointments aren’t required, people can preregister for the testing online.
“Every person, whether adult or minor, needs to be individually registered," according to the blog. "Once arriving at the site, they will be asked to provide their confirmation number.”
People should get tested for coronavirus if they have symptoms or have been exposed to the virus, Nevada Health Response said. Symptoms of coronavirus are cough, fever or chills, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, muscle or body aches, fatigue, headache, new loss of taste or smell, congestion or runny nose, sore throat, nausea or vomiting and diarrhea, Nevada Health Response said.
People should only get a test at an emergency room if they are experiencing a medical emergency.
Northshore Laboratories, according KOLO 8 News Now, is under investigation by the Nevada Division of Health and Human Services for “a complaint against Northshore Clinical Labs.”
At issue is PCR testing done by Northshore as contracted by Washoe County in which “approximately 200 PCR tests done by Northshore produced negative results when independent verification showed those results were in fact positive,” KOLO 8 said.
