Christopher MacMahon has long been interested in railroads, with a history of volunteering at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City starting in 1996.
Now, he’ll be director of the site in Boulder City, the governor announced recently.
“Congratulations to Christopher MacMahaon, the new director of the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Boulder City!” Gov. Steve Sisolak tweeted Jan.13. “This museum preserves and displays railroad equipment from the Boulder Branch line.”
MacMahon is a historian who grew up in Carson City. He joined the Navy, then later got a doctoral degree in history from the University of California, Santa Barbara, Boulder City Review reported.
His time at the Carson City museum saw him in multiple volunteer spots, even museum docent. He also played a role in creating various exhibits there, including one that showcased steam engine operations.
MacMahon is replacing Randy Hees, who retired Sept. 30 and moved out of state.
The open-air Boulder City museum preserves and showcases equipment from the Boulder Branch line, which supported the construction of the Hoover Dam almost a century ago.
