A former heavyweight champion of the world was recently honored with a statue in the city that frequently hosted many of his bouts.
A 10-foot statue of Mike Tyson was unveiled at Resorts World in Las Vegas.
Twitter user Chris Avraamides, who describes himself as a combat sports journalist, wrote about the unveiling that occurred last week.
“10-foot Bronze statue immortalizing Mike Tyson that was revealed this past Thursday in Las Vegas, Nevada outside Mulberry’s Pizzeria at Resorts World #MikeTyson #legend #Boxing #halloffame,” he wrote.
The statue stands just outside of Mulberry Street Pizzeria and is an homage to Tyson, who notched several legendary victories in the city, according to CBS News.
"Mulberry Street Pizzeria owner and founder Richie Palmer is an avid boxing fan and felt that Tyson represents a prominent time in the sports world as well as Las Vegas," Mulberry Street Pizzeria said in press release. "He thought that it was time Tyson deserved to be honored with his own statue, which is something that the Resorts World team agreed with, so they worked together to make this happen."
Tyson has transitioned into a cultural staple of the city, however, his statue has been mocked with some saying that it doesn’t resemble the legendary boxer, Marca reported.
