Nevada recently saw its large single-day jump in COVID-19 cases in almost eight months, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.

The state on Sept. 10 reported 1,652 new cases on Nevada from the previous day, 8 News Now reported. It was the highest single-day increase in new coronavirus cases since Jan. 22, the Review-Journal said.

Nearly half the new cases — 802 — were in Clark County, 8 News Now reported.

The big daily jump occurred even as other COVID-19 metric stalled, according to the Review-Journal.

There were 21 deaths from COVID-19 on Sept. 9, bringing the total in death toll in Nevada from the virus to 6,702. Fourteen of the deaths were in Clark County, 8 News Now said.

However, the number of deaths recorded each week has been declining recently. The number dropped from 153 the week of Aug. 22 to 150 the week of Aug. 29, the Review-Journal said.

Weekly deaths are now similar to the level in late February when the winter COVID-19 surge was weakening, the story said.

Nevada's two-week COVID-19 positivity rate remained unchanged at 12.2%, according to the Review-Journal.

A White House report labeled Nevada a state with high COVID-19 transmission and Clark County “an area of concern,” 8 News Now reported.

More than 53% of Nevada residents eligible for the vaccine had been fully vaccinated as of Sept. 10, KLAS reported.
