Sierra Nevada University recently issued the following announcement.
For those of you joining Sierra Nevada University for the first time, welcome! For returning Eagles, welcome back! This semester promises change and opportunity, as life always does, but my confidence is high as I join you on the Incline campus. I want to be certain that you can plan your fall semester accordingly, especially around the holidays. I wish you all a safe and academically challenging, but rewarding semester, and I can’t wait to meet you all!

COVID-19 has made adaptation a necessary part of education and life. This fall, we are modifying our academic calendar to ensure that we can deliver a successful and safe close to the semester.
Thanksgiving break will begin a usual, with students leaving for the holiday for a full week, November 22nd through November 26th. Following the break, students will not be returning to campus. Instead, we will complete the semester through December 12th, 2021, remotely. The reasons for not returning students to campus are straightforward – the risk associated with travel to/from campus from across the state and country, our desire to do our part to minimize risk to our surrounding community, and the logistics of keeping campus operations and services open beyond the end of the semester should a student require quarantine due to exposure or infection.
We are confident that we can complete the semester safely while maintaining a high level of academic performance using the tools that have gotten us through the past year and a half. In addition to adherence to academic integrity, we will complete the semester knowing that our decision to deliver instruction remotely following the Thanksgiving break has the added benefit of contributing to the protection of our surrounding community.
End of Term FAQ
Q – Will students be allowed to stay on campus over winter break?
A – Winter sports athletes training and competing over winter break are allowed to stay with the appropriate Coach and Dean of Student Affairs and Housing approvals. Students who work for the University in certain capacities are also allowed to stay over winter break with Dean of Student Affairs and Housing approval. All remaining students will be expected to leave campus for the remainder of the winter break.
Q – Can I leave my car on campus over Thanksgiving and winter break?
A – With advanced approval, students may leave their cars on campus over winter break in the back parking lot, parked in the center of the lot. Keys must be given to Lizzie Thibodeau, Dean of Student Affairs and Housing, to move parked vehicles to accommodate snow removal. The University is not responsible for loss or damage to vehicles left over the break. Students shall sign a release for the University to this effect.
Q – Will there be a credit for residence hall costs for students not in the dorms or using their meal plans?
A – Dorm rooms are a fixed cost; as a result, there will be no adjustment in dorm fees.
Meal plans are a variable cost. You will receive communication on meal plan credits from Student Accounts.
Q – Do I need to take my things with me if I am returning for the following semester?
A – As in past years, students must use their storage lockers for all their personal belongings over winter break. No items may be stored in dorm rooms.
Q – I planned on staying over Thanksgiving Break. Can I still do that?
A – Housing will close 24 hours after the last day of ground classes, November 19th. Aside from Winter Sports Athletes and Students Employed by SNU in certain positions, all other students are expected to plan for continuing the semester remotely, off-campus, when classes resume remote instruction on November 29th.
