Rep. Steven Horsford, U.S. Congressman for Nevada’s 4th District and Co-Chair of the Congressional Labor Caucus, posted a series of messages on X commemorating both the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina and Labor Day.

On August 30, 2025, Horsford marked two decades since Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans and surrounding Gulf states. He wrote, “20 years ago, Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans and 1,833 lives were lost across the Gulf states. Today, we honor them, and remind ourselves of the importance of disaster readiness.”

On September 1, 2025—Labor Day—Horsford expressed his appreciation for American workers in a pair of posts. In his first message that day he stated, “Happy #LaborDay! I am proud to represent Nevada’s 4th District & serve as Co-Chair of the Congressional @Labor_Caucus. Today is a moment to honor the workers who built this country & keep our economy going. #1u” Later that afternoon he added: “The fight for worker rights continues every day. This Labor Day, let’s recommit to:
Fair wages
Safe working conditions
The right to organize & bargain
I’ll keep fighting every day to make sure Nevada’s workers are seen, respected & protected. #1u #LaborDay”

Steven Horsford has represented Nevada’s 4th District in Congress since replacing Ruben Kihuen in 2019 and previously served in the Nevada Senate from 2009 to 2013. Born in Las Vegas in 1973 and a graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno (2014), Horsford has been an advocate for labor rights during his tenure.
