Rep. Steven Horsford, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Nevada’s 4th district, has shared a series of reflections and events related to Juneteenth and the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program through his social media platform.
On June 19, 2025, Rep. Horsford commemorated Juneteenth by recalling historical events in West Las Vegas. He stated: “They tried to erase our stories. They tried to ban our books. But on Juneteenth, we remember In 1971, Black leaders in West Las Vegas held the city’s first official Juneteenth celebration—planting seeds of pride and resistance that still grow today.” This reflection underscores the ongoing importance of preserving cultural narratives.
The following day, June 20, 2025, Rep. Horsford participated in a ceremonial event alongside local officials in North Las Vegas. He expressed his sentiments about this occasion: “Proud to have joined the Mayor and North Las Vegas City Council @CNLV for a Juneteenth flag raising—honoring the end of slavery and those who fought for our freedom.” His participation highlights efforts to honor historical progress while reaffirming commitments to justice.
Later on June 20, Rep. Horsford visited Dream Big Nevada to acknowledge DACA’s impact over its 13-year history. He remarked: “I visited @DreamBigNV to mark 13 years of DACA—a promise that changed lives.” He emphasized the economic contributions of nearly 11,000 Dreamers in his district and warned against ending DACA due to potential negative impacts on jobs and families.
