Rep. Steven Horsford, U.S. Congressman representing Nevada’s 4th district since 2019 and a former Nevada state senator, shared reflections on recent events and local figures in a series of posts on his Twitter account between May 10 and May 11, 2026.

On May 10, Horsford addressed the passing of a prominent Nevada lawmaker: “I am saddened by the passing of a dear friend, Senator Joyce Woodhouse. I was honored to serve with her during my first legislative session as Majority Leader. Her many years as a CCSD educator made her Nevada’s champion for public education, and it drove her passion for ensuring”.

The following day, he acknowledged Mother’s Day and the ongoing challenges faced by families in Nevada: “Moms are often the first to sacrifice and the last to ask for anything back. Here in Nevada, so many are balancing work, childcare, rising costs, and everything else life throws their way. Today we celebrate that strength and recommit to building an economy where families don’t” (May 11).

Later that morning on May 11, Horsford highlighted community engagement at a local event: “Nothing beats starting the morning with good food and even better community. It was great joining Mayor Jesse Whipple, local leaders, volunteers, and Mesquite residents for the annual Mayor’s Pancake Breakfast during Mesquite Days. Events like this are a reminder that Nevada’s”.

Steven Horsford has served as U.S. Representative for Nevada’s 4th district since succeeding Ruben Kihuen in 2019; he previously held office in the Nevada Senate from 2009 to 2013. Born in Las Vegas in 1973 and currently residing there at age 49, Horsford is also an alumnus of the University of Nevada, Reno.
