Rep. Steven Horsford, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Nevada’s 4th district since 2019, addressed the racial wealth gap in a series of posts on September 24, 2025. In his tweets, Horsford highlighted disparities in generational wealth and called for policy changes to address economic inequality.
In his first post at 14:11 UTC, Horsford stated, “The average White family holds nearly $1M more in wealth than Black & Latino families. This isn’t just history – it’s today’s reality. Closing the gap means investing in housing, fair pay, & opportunity for ALL. #WealthWednesday”.
Later that day at 15:50 UTC, he wrote, “Generational wealth isn’t built equally. Barriers in housing, pay, & education keep Black & Brown families behind. We can rewrite the story with bold policies + community investment. #WealthWednesday”.
In a third tweet posted at 19:50 UTC, Horsford added, “The racial wealth gap costs the U.S. economy trillions in lost growth. When Black & brown families thrive, America thrives. Equity isn’t charity, it’s smart economics. #WealthWednesday”.
Horsford has served as a congressional representative since replacing Ruben Kihuen in 2019 and previously held office in the Nevada Senate from 2009 to 2013. Born and raised in Las Vegas in 1973 and currently residing there at age 49, Horsford earned his BA from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2014.
