Rep. Steven Horsford, U.S. Congressman representing Nevada’s 4th district since 2019, posted a series of statements on October 31, 2025, highlighting Nevada Day and expressing concerns about potential impacts of a government shutdown on state residents.
In his first message commemorating the state holiday, Horsford stated, “Happy Nevada Day! Today we honor the Silver State’s frontier spirit, bold history, and the promise we continue to build together. As we celebrate our past, let’s remember to fight for a future where every Nevadan – senior, worker, veteran, and young person – can thrive.” (posted October 31, 2025).
Later in the day, he addressed possible interruptions to public assistance programs due to political gridlock in Washington. He wrote: “SNAP benefits may stop tomorrow as a result of the Republican Shutdown and President Trump’s refusal to use emergency funds. 500k Nevadans who rely on SNAP to put food on the table could go hungry as a result. If you need support, the first priority is knowing where to find it.” (posted October 31, 2025).
He also posed a question about federal government leadership: “Who controls the House, Senate, and White House?” (posted October 31, 2025).
Horsford has represented Nevada’s 4th congressional district since replacing Ruben Kihuen in 2019. He previously served in the Nevada Senate from 2009 to 2013 and holds a degree from the University of Nevada, Reno. Born in Las Vegas in 1973 and currently residing there at age 49, Horsford frequently addresses issues affecting Nevadans through his public communications.
