City of North Las Vegas issued the following announcement.

The City of North Las Vegas is pleased to announce that Serafin Calvo, Parking Services and Homelessness Initiative Manager, will receive the 2021 Vegas Inc. Angel Award for Volunteer of the Year at a ceremony on Sept. 30 at Westgate Resorts. The prestigious award will honor seven local businesses and individuals who were nominated by the public and reviewed by a panel of previous Angel Award recipients based on their service to our community, accomplishments, and leadership.

“I am deeply humbled to be recognized as Volunteer of the Year,” said Serafin Calvo. “Just one person can make a difference and improve the lives of those in our community.”

Calvo is being honored for his volunteer work in the community over the past three decades. Much of his efforts are geared toward youth, including adopting families every year who are less fortunate or grieving the loss of a loved one, along with serving on the advisory board of Project 150, which provides meals, mentoring, scholarships, school supplies and other resources for homeless high school students. Additionally, Calvo volunteers at numerous community events and hosts “The Kickback 702,” a podcast geared toward discussing difficult topics in lower income communities, reaching listeners and subscribers around the world. In addition to being named the Vegas Inc. Volunteer of the Year, Calvo will be honored in October as a finalist for the 2021 Governor’s Points of Light Lifetime Achievement Award. The Governor’s Points of Light Awards celebrate the extraordinary service efforts of Nevadans across the state, highlighting regional impacts along with the private and public partnership across the nonprofit and corporate sector.

Calvo was appointed Parking Services Manager in July 2018. Calvo joined the City of North Las Vegas after 25 years of experience with the City of Las Vegas as Parking Services Administrator. Calvo developed and manages the City of North Las Vegas’ parking services program, which launched in January 2019, and serves as the City’s Homelessness Initiative Manager, leading the newly launched Homeless Outreach and Mobile Engagement (H.O.M.E.) Team, which addresses the challenges of homelessness in the community.
