Rep. Steven Horsford, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Nevada’s 4th district, recently shared a series of tweets addressing concerns about Medicaid funding in Nevada. The congressman highlighted the potential risks associated with federal Medicaid cuts and their impact on residents’ healthcare coverage.

On March 18, 2025, Rep. Horsford tweeted: “Medicaid is a lifeline for Nevada-but funding is at risk. If federal Medicaid cuts go through, thousands could lose coverage. Here’s what you need to know.” This tweet underscores the significance of Medicaid as a crucial support system for many Nevadans.

In another tweet posted on the same day, he elaborated on how “Most of Nevada’s Medicaid costs are matched by the federal government at a 60% rate–known as the Federal Medical Assistance Percentage (FAMP).” This highlights the state’s reliance on federal assistance to cover its healthcare expenses.

Further emphasizing this point, Rep. Horsford noted that “Federal Medicaid funding to Nevada was $4.3 BILLION in 2023 –making up 57% of all federal funding to the state.” This statistic illustrates the substantial role that federal contributions play in supporting Nevada’s healthcare infrastructure.
