Rep. Steven Horsford, who represents Nevada’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, marked several national observances and historical anniversaries in a series of posts on September 18, 2025.
In his first post of the day, Horsford reflected on the anniversary of a significant event in American history: “On this day in 1850, the Fugitive Slave Act was passed, forcing free states to return escaped enslaved people to bondage. A stark reminder that laws can uphold injustice, and why we must continue the fight for freedom and equality.” (September 18, 2025).
Later that afternoon, Horsford highlighted International Equal Pay Day with a message focused on economic fairness: “Today is #InternationalEqualPayDay, a reminder that equal pay for equal work strengthens families, small businesses & communities. In NV-04, hardworking Nevadans deserve fairness and opportunity. It’s time to close the pay gap & build a stronger future for all.” (September 18, 2025).
In an evening post recognizing National HIV/AIDS and Aging Awareness Day, Horsford wrote: “Today is National HIV/AIDS and Aging Awareness Day. We honor the resilience of older adults living with HIV and recommit to: Raising awareness Reducing stigma Expanding access to care across generations #HIVandAging #StopTheStigma” (September 18, 2025).
Steven Horsford has represented Nevada’s 4th congressional district since 2019 after replacing Ruben Kihuen. He previously served in the Nevada Senate from 2009 to 2013. Born in Las Vegas in 1973 and currently residing there at age 49, Horsford earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2014.
