Rep. Steven Horsford, who represents Nevada’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, marked the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech and raised concerns about the economic impact of tariffs on Nevada’s tourism sector in a series of posts on August 28, 2025.
On the morning of August 28, Horsford commemorated Dr. King’s legacy, stating, “62 years ago today, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had the courage to dream of a better world, a more perfect union and a more just America. Today, his words remind us that there is more to do to ensure the American Dream belongs to each of us. #IHaveADream” (posted at 16:50 UTC).
Later that day, Horsford addressed recent employment figures in Las Vegas linked to changes in international tourism patterns. He wrote at 18:27 UTC: ” Tariffs aren’t just policy—they’re pink slips. Vegas unemployment spiked by 8,000 jobs this summer as Canadian tourists vanished. Those visitors support 43,000 Nevada jobs. #VegasTourism #TrumpSlump”.
In another post at 20:15 UTC, Horsford highlighted the importance of trade with Canada for both Nevada and the broader U.S., adding: ” Canada is our #1 trade partner: $412B in U.S. exports, $350B in imports. Plus $3.6B to Nevada’s GDP and 43,000 jobs from Canadian tourism. Trump’s tariffs—and the taxes Americans pay—undermine all of this. #TrumpSlump”.
Steven Horsford has represented Nevada’s 4th District since 2019 after replacing Ruben Kihuen and previously served in the Nevada Senate from 2009 to 2013 (https://bioguide.congress.gov/search/bio/H001072). Born and residing in Las Vegas since his birth in 1973, he earned his BA from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2014.
