Rep. Steven Horsford, who represents Nevada’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, addressed the impact of the ongoing government shutdown in a series of tweets on October 14, 2025. Horsford highlighted the consequences for constituents and offered support from his office for those struggling to access federal services.
In a post on October 14, 2025, Horsford stated, “This shutdown isn’t about politics – it’s about people. It impacts your health care, food security, veterans’ services, and more. If you need help accessing federal services during the shutdown, my office is here to help.”
He also warned about the effects on food assistance programs, posting, “Food Assistance WIC could quickly run out of contingency funds, leaving families without food support. SNAP benefits could be impacted if the shutdown drags on.”
In a later tweet, Horsford criticized efforts to block back pay for federal workers and increase health insurance costs during the shutdown, writing, “Put more money in your pockets, they said. But now they want to block back pay for federal workers – and increase our health insurance costs during a shutdown they caused. How does that help working families? “
Horsford has served in Congress since 2019, after replacing Ruben Kihuen, and previously served in the Nevada Senate from 2009 to 2013. He was born in Las Vegas in 1973 and continues to reside there. Horsford graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree.
