Rep. Steven Horsford, who represents Nevada’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, outlined the impacts of a government shutdown in a series of posts on October 1, 2025.
In an initial message, Horsford addressed how Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments would continue but warned of service disruptions: “Social Security & SSI checks will still go out. But: The Social Security Administration (SSA) will offer limited services. Benefit verifications and overpayment processing will pause. You can expect longer customer service wait times.” This post was published on October 1, 2025.
Horsford continued by highlighting broader consequences for public services: “A shutdown – even a partial one- disrupts critical services. FDA halts routine food safety inspections. National parks close or become unsafe… 86,000+ immigration court hearings canceled. Support services for low income families could be threatened.” This tweet was also posted on October 1, 2025.
He introduced his thread with an overview post: ” What happens during a government shutdown—and how does it impact YOU? Here’s what you need to know:” on October 1, 2025.
