Rep. Steven Horsford, representing Nevada’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, has vocalized his concerns regarding the economic impact of trade tariffs and the importance of supporting veterans through specialized loan programs. In a series of tweets, Horsford critiques trade policies and highlights government initiatives aimed at aiding military personnel.
On April 5, 2025, Horsford expressed criticism of tariffs implemented by former President Trump, asserting that “Trump’s tariffs don’t hurt China — they hurt you.” He further declared that these tariffs increase costs for American businesses and families and dismissed them as an ineffective economic strategy, labeling them as “economic sabotage.”
Later on the same day, Horsford reiterated his stance with a tweet stating that “The only thing these tariffs are protecting us from is affordable groceries.” This statement emphasizes his perspective that these policies hinder the affordability of essential products, further stressing their detrimental effect.
On April 6, 2025, Horsford shifted his focus to the Veterans Affairs Servicing Purchase (VASP) program in a tweet. He noted that “The Veterans Affairs Servicing Purchase (VASP) program was created to help veterans and servicemembers with VA-backed loans avoid foreclosure.” He highlighted the program’s ability to assist veterans by purchasing troubled loans and providing new terms, including a 2.5% interest rate, aimed at helping veterans remain in their homes.
