Rep. Steven Horsford, who represents Nevada’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, has voiced concerns on social media regarding nuclear testing and the ongoing federal government shutdown. Horsford posted a series of statements on November 6, 2025, addressing both issues and highlighting their impact on Nevadans.
On the topic of nuclear testing, Horsford wrote: “Nevada has already experienced nuclear testing – we have the lasting scars to prove it, and we aren’t going back. Trump’s suggestion that we ‘be ready to test again’ would undo decades progess, threaten public health, and risk a new nuclear arms race. I joined my colleageus” (November 6, 2025).
Later that day, Horsford turned his attention to the ongoing government shutdown affecting millions across the country: “Week 6 of the #RepublicanShutdown and families are paying the price. 42 million Americans, including 500,000 Nevadans, rely on SNAP to put food on the table. They should never be used as political pawns. Democrats are demanding an end to this reckless shutdown so nobody” (November 6, 2025).
In another post addressing Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits during the shutdown he stated: “Threatening SNAP benefits and playing games with people’s pockets isn’t leadership – it’s cruelty. Millions of Americans rely on SNAP for basic food security. The Trump administration’s attempts to withhold benefits until the shutdown is resolved puts parents, seniors, and” (November 6, 2025).
Steven Horsford has represented Nevada’s 4th District in Congress since replacing Ruben Kihuen in 2019. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of the Nevada Senate from 2009 to 2013 and holds a BA from the University of Nevada, Reno (2014). Born in Las Vegas in 1973, Horsford continues to reside there while serving his constituents.
