Rep. Steven Horsford, a U.S. Congressman representing Nevada’s 4th district since 2019, used his social media platform on November 5 and 6, 2025, to comment on the ongoing government shutdown and its effects on American families.
In a post dated November 5, Horsford shared a constituent’s experience: “I recently heard from a disabled single mother of three. She told me she’s angry and heartbroken – not just because of this GOP-led shutdown, but because it feels like powerful people face no consequences while families like hers are left to struggle. She relies on Medicaid…”
Later that evening, he addressed the political leadership behind the shutdown: “Let’s be clear: Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the White House. This is their shutdown — and working families are paying the price. Say it louder, @SenJackyRosen.” The following day, Horsford continued his criticism: “It’s been 36 days of the GOP-led shutdown – and 46 days since the House last held a vote. While families go hungry, seniors face higher health care costs, and workers miss paychecks, Donald Trump is focused on ending the filibuster to force through even more extreme policies.”
Steven Horsford has represented Nevada’s 4th Congressional District in Congress since replacing Ruben Kihuen in 2019. He previously served in the Nevada Senate from 2009 to 2013 and was born in Las Vegas in 1973. He graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with a bachelor’s degree in 2014.
