Rep. Steven Horsford, who represents Nevada’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, used his social media platform to criticize recent federal actions affecting Native communities, referencing both past and current policy decisions.
On October 13, 2025, Horsford wrote, “This comes after years of neglect. Under the Trump administration, federal grant freezes threatened more than $24.5 billion in Tribal funding money that supports housing, education, and healthcare in Native communities.”
Continuing his commentary the following day, Horsford posted, “During this Republican shutdown, Native communities are being hurt again. The Inter-Tribal Council of Nevada was forced to suspend WIC cutting off vital nutrition support for families across Tribal lands.” This statement highlights the impact of the ongoing government shutdown on nutrition assistance programs in tribal areas.
Later on October 14, 2025, Horsford added, “Now, the so-called ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ adds insult to injury slashing programs that help working families and Tribal nations alike. These cuts aren’t just numbers on paper. They’re meals, jobs, and healthcare for real people.”
Horsford has represented Nevada’s 4th district in Congress since 2019 after previously serving in the Nevada Senate from 2009 to 2013. Born in Las Vegas in 1973, he continues to reside there and graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree.
