Rep. Steven Horsford, a U.S. Congressman representing Nevada’s 4th district since 2019, addressed concerns about government services and Indigenous rights in a series of posts on October 14, 2025.
In an early morning message, Horsford stated, “Trump and Republicans are trying to erase history, identity, and essential services. On #IndigenousPeoplesDay, we stand with Nevada’s Walker River Paiute and Moapa Band of Paiutes and every Tribe fighting to be seen, heard, and respect” (October 14, 2025). The post coincided with Indigenous Peoples Day and highlighted Horsford’s support for Native American communities in Nevada.
Later the same day, Horsford provided updates on the impact of government shutdowns on federal services. He assured recipients that, ” Checks for Social Security and SSI will still go out. But expect delays in other services: Benefit verifications paused Overpayment processing stopped Customer service wait times will increase” (October 14, 2025). He further detailed disruptions, writing, “Government Services Shutdowns – partial or full – disrupt everyday services: National parks stop trash pickup & maintenance Immigration cases are delayed or cancelled” (October 14, 2025).
Horsford’s posts come amid ongoing concerns about the effects of federal government shutdowns on essential public services. As a legislator who has represented Nevada’s 4th District since 2019 and previously served in the Nevada Senate from 2009 to 2013, Horsford has focused on both constituent services and advocacy for marginalized groups. Born in Las Vegas in 1973 and currently residing there, Horsford is also an alumnus of the University of Nevada, Reno.
