Rep. Steven Horsford, a U.S. Congressman representing Nevada’s 4th district since 2019, used his social media platform on October 6, 2025, to criticize current immigration enforcement tactics, highlight the impact of a government shutdown on healthcare access, and address the effects of the ongoing federal closure on workers.
In a post published at 00:33 UTC, Horsford stated, “Unnecessarily cruel enforcement of immigration policies is a failure of leadership. It doesn’t make our communities safer to have masked men use violent tactics to tear families apart.”
Later that day at 13:52 UTC, he drew attention to the personal impact of Medicaid coverage during the shutdown debate: “Jared’s fiancée relies on Medicaid to stay alive. Without it, her care would be unaffordable, and that’s the reality millions of families face as the GOP shutdown threatens the health care they depend on. Health care is not about politics; it’s about people’s lives”
At 17:34 UTC, Horsford addressed labor issues resulting from the federal government shutdown and referenced an appearance on MSNBC: “I’m fighting for workers while Republicans (who control the House, the Senate, and the White House) keep our government shut down. Their failure means federal employees are furloughed, working without pay, and even facing layoffs. I joined @TheRevAl on @MSNBC to discuss”
Steven Horsford has represented Nevada’s 4th District in Congress since 2019 after replacing Ruben Kihuen. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in the Nevada Senate from 2009 to 2013. Born in Las Vegas in 1973 and currently residing there, Horsford graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with a bachelor’s degree in 2014.
