Nevada reported 40 new COVID-19 deaths Aug. 10 from the previous day and was identified as a high transmission state on an Aug. 9 White House report, 8 News Now reported.
Of the 40 deaths, 32 were from Clark County.
July 6 marked the first time since early March that Clark County had been flagged for “elevated disease transmission,” meaning it meets two or three of the criteria for that designation, 8 News Now reported. Clark County remained flagged on Aug. 10 along with Carson City, Churchill, Douglas, Elko, Esmeralda, Eureka, Lincoln, Lyon, Nye and Washoe counties.
Gov. Steve Sisolak spoke Aug. 5 about the need for citizens in Nevada to be vaccinated.
“Unless we increase our vaccination rates quickly, the virus will have time to mutate, the unvaccinated will continue to fill our hospitals and place unnecessary strain on our ability to treat all patients,” Sisolak said, KNTV reported.
The state’s health department reported that over 2.7 million doses of the vaccine have been administered in Nevada as of Aug. 9.
Over the weekend of Aug. 7 and 8, more than 3,000 additional cases of COVID-19 were reported and there were 35 COVID-19-related deaths in the state, 8 News Now reported. The positivity test rose to 16.3% and Clark County’s rate exceeded 17%.
