Clark County Nevada recently issued the following announcement.
As County leaders continue working to address the mental health crisis in our community, the Commissioners today approved a new contract to provide intensive care and services to our youth who are dealing with the most challenging mental health and behavioral issues.
Commissioners voted 7-0 this morning to approve a contract worth up to $1.9 million with Henderson-based Silver State Pediatric Behavioral Services to provide long-term, inpatient care to children in the custody of the County’s Department of Family Services who have significant intellectual, behavioral and/or mental health issues.
“Today, there are children in foster homes and at Child Haven who need more intensive supervision and care,” Commission Chairman Jim Gibson said. “Being able to provide these children with a program designed to deal with their behavioral and mental health conditions in an inpatient setting is necessary and provides for the appropriate level of care. We need to make sure the children in our care are getting the help they need and deserve.”
The contract with Silver State Pediatric Behavioral Services is through June 30 and includes a County option to extend the contract through June 2023. Under the terms of the contract, Silver State Pediatric Behavioral Services will provide up to six beds for inpatient treatment for children in the custody of the County’s Department of Family Services who are intellectually or developmentally delayed, or diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder or neurodevelopmental disability.
While the county’s goal is to always place children in a family-based environment, sometimes there are children who need a higher level of care or supportive services. Our hope with this program is that children will be able to stabilize and successfully reintegrate to a family home.
