The City of Fallon recently conducted its 92nd annual, traditional tree lighting ceremony to officially kick off the Yuletide season.

Betty Mitchell Rogne, 95, was chosen to light the tree at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3 at the Maine Street fountain, according to Nevada Appeal. Rogne is a longtime Churchill County native who grew up in the Soda Lake area.

Other events for Dec. 3. included an open house at the Fallon City Hall and the Douglass House from 4-7 p.m.

The city held Santa’s Wonderland including cookie decorating, ornament making, letters to Santa station, free photos with Santa and more in the City Hall courtyard from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4.

The city of Fallon isn’t the only Nevada city kicking off its Yuletide celebration as evident by a recent tweet from the City of Duck announcing their annual celebration as well.

“Kick off the holiday season with the 11th Annual Duck Yuletide Celebration sponsored by Village Realty. The celebration runs from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4. Enjoy live music, tasty treats, family activities, the lighting of the crab pot tree and a visit from Santa,” the Town of Duck wrote in a Nov. 27 Twitter post.
