Cary Groth, former University of Nevada-Reno athletic director who now directs the university’s sports management program, has been chosen for the Mid-American Conference Hall of Fame’s 2022 class, according to a news release.

Groth was the Wolf Pack's first female director, serving in that position from 2004-13. Before that, she was an athlete, coach and administrator at Northern Illinois University  for 23 years, the news release said.

“To get honored through your school and by the MAC, a league I have so much love and respect for, is special," Groth said in a statement. "The best part is it's an acknowledgment of a time at Northern with some very special people at a place that's home. It's an honor to be inducted with this group, many of whom I admired during my time as a tennis coach and learned from as I was moving into athletic administration.”

At Northern Illinois, Groth lettered in both tennis and basketball, and went on to become the head coach of the women's tennis team and athletic director.

This year, the Hall of Fame, in commemoration of the passing of Title IX, a federal law that prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation in education programs receiving federal funding, will honor people from each conference school that have contributed to the advancement of women's athletics, the news release said.
